Community Speakers: Lisa Daly, MAT and Cheryl Young, LCSW

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an evidenced based series of classes for unpaid family caregivers. Research has found that caregivers in general are at a high risk for depression and other stress related illnesses. In the six weekly classes, we focus on the LGBT community of caregivers to improve self-care behaviors, manage difficult emotions, and increase self-efficacy. We added a seventh class to this series that specifically addresses legal protection and legal issues unique to the LGBT community. Participants will learn, share experiences and ideas in a supportive, caring environment.

Caregivers develop tools to:

• Reduce personal stress.
• Change negative self-talk.
• Communicate their needs to family and healthcare professionals.
• Communicate more effectively in challenging situations.
• Deal with difficult feelings.
• Make tough caregiving decisions.
