AGLCC Rings in 2012 with Exciting Developments
AUSTIN, TX, January 9, 2012 - The Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (AGLCC) is celebrating the new year with a fresh look, a re-energized attitude, and the return of board members Jimmy Flannigan and Ceci Gratias.
To celebrate this new chapter, the Chamber will hold a free Launch Party at the Sheraton Austin Hotel on Thursday, Jan. 19, 5:30-7:30pm. Appetizers and a cash bar will be served. Businesses that join or renew their Chamber memberships before the launch party will receive a discounted price, only $100 for the year instead of the standard $125.
Flannigan and Gratias will be taking the roles of Vice-President and Treasurer, respectively. They were re-elected at the Chamber's annual election on Tuesday, December 29, 2011, joining incumbent members Amy Cook, Rick Holmberg, and Bart Loeser.
"I'm very excited to welcome Ceci and Jimmy back to the board," said Cook. "Their energy for the chamber is infectious."
Both members have previously served on the Board. Shortly before leaving the Chamber in 2009, they were instrumental in coordinating one of Austin’s most successful Pride celebrations in the history of the organization.
In the two and a half years since his departure, Flannigan has focused on growing his business, Site Street. Last year, Site Street was contracted to redesign the Chamber's logo and a new website which features a new and improved events calendar.
"We're offering free membership to any non-profit organization with LGBT programming," said Flannigan. "And making sure community events are accurately listed and up to date."
Gratias remained active as a board member of Out Youth and volunteered her time and talent with HRC Austin, Queerbomb and ALLGO, Texas' statewide queer people of color organization .
Also new for 2012: The chamber aims to build a vibrant membership and revive past successes, like monthly networking events and regular meetings. They will also continue to host local Toastmaster events as one of only three gay Toastmaster clubs in the country.
“The new board looks forward to reinvigorating the Chamber, and Ceci and I are excited to reconnect with our friends and colleagues in Austin’s LGBT-friendly business community,” said Flannigan.
Come celebrate this new chapter with the Chamber!
