Jimmy Flannigan steps down as AGLCC president; Edgar Gierbolini elected to succeed Flannigan

AUSTIN, Texas (April 1, 2014) — Jimmy Flannigan resigned March 31 as president of the Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce to run for a seat on the Austin City Council. Edgar Gierbolini, vice president of the AGLCC board, was elected to succeed Flannigan as president.

During Flannigan's recent tenure as AGLCC president and vice president, the chamber’s membership has soared from 15 to 350. Among other achievements under Flannigan's leadership, AGLCC created The Agenda quarterly magazine in collaboration with the Austin Chronicle, launched the #BigGay Kickoff Party during South by Southwest Interactive, earned the 2013 Rising Star Chamber of the Year award from the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and established an initiative to demonstrate how much money is spent at LGBT-friendly businesses in Austin.

"Jimmy’s tireless efforts have helped make AGLCC one of the best and fastest-growing LGBT chambers in the country. Without Jimmy’s valuable contributions, the LGBT business community in Austin would not be as robust as it is now," Gierbolini said.

Flannigan said: "It has been an honor to lead the AGLCC board as the chamber continues to thrive and grow. The future of AGLCC is in excellent hands with Edgar and his team."

The Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (AGLCC) is Central Texas' home for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) supportive businesses and organizations. The chamber is the best resource to learn about LGBT-friendly businesses, services, community resources and events in the Austin area.
