AGLCC works with city, company to fully protect Athenahealth’s LGBT workers

AUSTIN, Texas (January 7, 2014) — A seminar on becoming certified as an LBGT Business Enterprise will be presented Friday, Jan. 10, in Austin as part of "Shaking Hands With Big Business: A Procurement Fair."

The seminar will be from 1:30-2:15 p.m. at Virginia College at Austin’s Ecotech Institute, 14200 N. I-35. The fair will be from 1-4:30 p.m.

Leaders of the seminar will be Sam McClure, director of affiliate relations and external affairs at the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), and Ceci Gratias, regional chair of the NCLCC’s Council of Chambers and Business Organizations and a board member of the Austin Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (AGLCC).

This will be the first time that the AGLCC and the NGLCC will be giving a presentation in Austin about how to become certified as an LGBT Business Enterprise (LGBTBE).

"For businesses owned by LGBT people, women, minorities, veterans and people with disabilities, business enterprise certifications combined with marketing to corporate supplier diversity programs and government contracting opportunities can be lucrative," Gratias said.

The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the procurement fair, and the AGLCC is a partner. This is the first time that an LGBT chamber in the U.S. has teamed up with a general-interest chamber on a procurement fair.
